Originally assigned to the Screamin' Mimi as a Second-Class Computer Technician during a hasty diplomatic mission into Kuritan space, Daniel was swept into a life of piracy when the officers of the ship went rogue. Surviving as best he could, he slowly worked his way up the ranks as the pirate officers killed off the crew through accident or diliberate action. Daniel reached the dreaded position of the Chief Engineer just prior to the raid on Northwind. When the piracy gig came to a sharp end, he quickly teamed up with his old friend Visp Lewin and was successfully pardoned by Duke Aaron Sandoval's all-encompasing Letter of Marque. Now working as a legitimate Privateer, he is happy to take a step back from the CE's chair of the newly renamed Screamin' Banshee--letting Cecilia "Queen of the Techies" Montgomery take the position. There had been whispered talk of "Daniel's big secret" among the surviving crew of the ship, but until recently no-one seemed willing to let the new Privateer commanders in on the story. As it turns out, Daniel is in fact an active ComStar spy. Nevertheless, his duty to the team has yet to be questioned--the remaining former pirates even going so far as to vouch for his loyalty. This has put much strain on his relationship with the current privateer leadership, and it may be in Daniel's best interest to leave quietly at his earliest opportunity.
