Starting her life as a ronin child on the streets of Dieron, Ishima was recruited into the DCMS Gomi program after being caught stealing from a Kuritan flight officer. Interested in keeping such a quick-handed youth in his own unit, upon her graduation he personally transferred her out of the criminal Gomi Regiment and into the Dieron Regulars. She performed well for five years before the untimely loss of her sponsoring officer to a Steiner raid forced her back into the Gomi. She refused the demotion and was offered seppuku as an alternative. Rather than accept what she comsidered a punishment, Ishima left her aerofighter behind and fled to the first merchant ship leaving planet. Eventually teaming up with the Kuritan-Davion double agent Zafir Widikas as his personal pilot, she saw quite a bit of both sides of the border before being captured by the Northwind Irregulars on the planet Errai.

Ishima was an avid fan of the Games on Solaris VII and as such quickly recognized VanDoorn, one of her favorite pilots. Ishima likes to spend time with VanDoorn, as she does not fully trust the rest of the crew. She is, after all, technically a POW. Nevertheless, she has flown several missions for the Northwind Irregulars. It seems that it is a matter of time before she is offered a full position with the unit.
