I suppose there are worse fates. Many worse fates. I start with the truth. I tell Seela that this is my first time and that I don't know what I'm doing. This doesn't seem to surprise Seela. She wraps the sheet around herself and gestures to a low table on the floor of the cabin. I sit and we have tea. We talk and relax. Later we make love. It's over almost as quickly as it starts. And again later that night almost as quick as the first time. Seela then teaches me to slow down, how to savor the experience.

I spend a lot of the voyage through hyperspace with Seela in our cabin. There is still training for myself and my students. There is time to learn about the new ship. I have my students and my Padiwan continue their training. Most of their training is self study. I spend a lot of my time with Seela in our cabin. I am surprised at how much I learn. About myself. About Seela.

We would lie in the sheets and I found myself sharing my life story with Seela. What it was like growing up as an orphan. What my training was like with Master Li. My hopes for the future. The things that lurk in the darkness. Seela is a good listener. She asks insightful questions to clarify her understanding of my story. She's compassionate. I begin to understand that there is a more intimate connection that can be formed amongst living beings. This is something that I understood, somewhere in the back of my mind. It's another thing to experience it first hand. It's like I've been walking around in a dark room with a dim glowrod and then someone turns on the lights. I realize that something is lost by the Jedi when we cut ourselves off from the world. It distances us from the people we are here to protect, it makes it harder to relate.
