	My relationship with Seela also changed in that moment. I had worked to keep Seela a little distant from me for several reasons. A jealous, enraged Yanna would be difficult for anyone to deal with. Seela picked up bits and pieces Yanna and my shared past from the other crew. She sensed there was something unresolved. So she waited. She waited for me to face it, for that past to become completed. Then she changed the nature of our friendship. The first that I realized things had changed was onboard the new starship. Looking at the crew quarters. Seela and I were to share a compartment. I was aware of the crew conspiracy to bring Seela and I closer. Even at that moment I did not realize the depth of that conspiracy. The cabin's decorations were not what I expected. The cabin had been decorated with a variety of cloth wall hangings. Lit beeswax candles from the dojo provided a soft warm glow while filling the compartment with the trace scent of a mountain summer meadow. A painting from my Padiwan. A glyph about Freedom. Gracefully profound, poignantly rendered on the paper and hanging from the wall. A bed against one wall, canopied. Draped in silk sheets. Seela lying underneath the top sheet, wearing nothing else, smiling coyly from warmth of the bed. The hatch above me slams shut. I can hear the sound of the door being wedged shut and the joyous laugher of my students. They intend me to spend the night with Seela in our cabin. In that moment I understand how completely I have been ambushed. The extent of the conspiracy amongst my students, my Padiwan and Seela to create this moment. How completely off guard I have been caught. How utterly unprepared for this moment I am.
