Yanna Tarassi
Emperor's Hand

Born on her father's YT-1300 light freighter somewhere along the Coruscant-Corellian hyperspace lane, Yanna was thrust into the life of a spacer from an early age. Never knowing her mother, Yanna was raised by her father in the best way he knew how. Growing up amongst the stars, she learned the value of a good mechanic and a quick wit. Yanna learned to fast-talk her way through Imperial pickets by the time she was in her early teens, gaining her the reputation of a sort of "lucky charm" to have along on smuggling runs. Usually up to her elbows with grease from the engine room, she never leaned to be like the proper ladies that she sometimes saw at the starports in the Core worlds. Openly friendly with the worst sort of smuggler scum in the Galaxy, Yanna could often be found reading from the collection of datacard novels that she had collected over the years. Never one for romances, she prefered the exciting tales of the Jedi Knights of the Old Republic--one day hoping to have her chance to have an adventure of her own.

That day came all too soon when an Imperial boarding crew discovered her collection. A firefight broke out between the Imperials and the crew of her father's ship, who mistakenly believed that the Imps had found their contraband spice. In the resulting battle, the crew managed to force the Imperials off the ship but they were caught trying to flee to hyperspace by an Interdictor cruiser. Tossed into an escape pod by her father, Yanna could only watch as the Imperials pounded the ship to scrap with their turbolasers. Eventually picked up by another smuggling ship, Yanna has been drifting from one place to the next trading repair skills for passage. She hoped to one day avenge the death of her father by bringing good and justice back into the Galaxy. Someday, she vowed, she was going to be a Jedi Knight--just like in the stories.

Sadly, before that could happen, Yanna discoverd the power of the Dark Side of the Force while attempting to assist Lim Res in a firefight on the Ghambeezi Drift Station. Yanna slowly succumed to the seduction of the Dark Side during frequent periods of fear and anger with the party. Still, at the cusp of her final fall into darkness, Yanna refused the call and fought as Lim had trained her--thereby buying the party time to flee. Yanna was last seen bleeding and battered at the feet of Lord Darth Vader. She was considered MIA by the party until her sudden reappearance.

After her capture at Sluis-Van, Yanna was presented to Emperor Palpatine and was slowly taken in by his persuasive rhetoric. She was trained in the use of the Force and is now employed by him as The Emperor's Hand--his personal assassin. She has taken on a number of surveillance missions, often posing as one of the Emperor's dalliances in order to escape notice. But as a member of Palpatine's closest followers, she has gained a good deal of experience in the use of the Force. Her active Force talents were twisted by the Emperor, which now allows her to contact him across vast distances anywhere in the galaxy. Yanna has been trained with various Force powers, as well as the use of a Lightsaber. Even at this young age, she is an extremely determined, strong, and lethal woman.

Quirks Specific to Yanna Tarassi:

  • Completely and unswervingly loyal to Emperor Palpatine
  • Her father was Jedi Master Tarassi (deceased)
  • Is using a combination of Lim's Jeet Kun Do training, and the Sith Echani style as her Martial Art of choice
  • Yanna is naturally attuned to Alter powers, but has difficulty with Sense powers
  • Prefers to crush a victim's lungs when using Telekinetic Kill
  • Had a schoolgirl crush on Lim Res, which then turned into a bitter, scorned hatred.
  • Yanna recently discovered that she is Lim's half-sister, which only made things more complicated.

The following information is from the webpage: The Emperor's Hand Prestige Class

Mara Jade strutting The Emperor's Hand is an assassin recruited, trained, and employed by Emperor Palpatine himself. To rule the galaxy effectively, Emperor Palpatine sometimes needs certain persons removed from it. These might be ambitious planetary governors, greedy crime lords, highly placed Rebel sympathizers, or disloyal Imperial officers. But too often for the Emperor's taste, these individuals (rather wisely) refuse to come to him, instead making themselves inaccessible. They frequently occupy heavily fortified structures, employ numerous guards, and fill every chamber, corridor, and entrance with security devices. They are determined to survive the Emperor's will. The Emperor is then forced to charge one of his Hands with reaching out and crushing these defiant fools.

The Emperor's Hands operate out of devotion to the Emperor. Though they rightly fear his wrath, they also feel gratitude or even affection for him, for he rewards their service lavishly. They enjoy a freedom shared by precious few in the Empire. The fact that they are murdering people to please the Emperor hardly enters into their thinking; after all, these people are often tyrants and killers themselves. Because their targets are usually a threat to the general public -- even if that means the Imperial public -- the Hands, in a way, protect the public, and thus are doing good. (Of course, the Emperor is not above embellishing the misdeeds of a target to foment a sense of duty in his minions.)

Each Emperor's Hand operates alone, often with the false idea that he or she is the Emperor's only assassin. They are given a great deal of support and authority, with special clearances designed to allow them access to whatever resources they need. They rarely identify themselves as Hands, however. The Emperor prefers that they exist as rumors -- mythic figures whose powers grow with each whispered story. The words "the Emperor has set his personal assassin on your trail" are often far more effective in controlling the unruly than actually dispatching one of the Hands.

Because they operate alone, each Hand has a distinctly different method of achieving the Emperor's goals. Some prefer a surgical strike, leaving a corpse in the midst of a crowd; others would just as soon destroy a fortress full of innocents to reach their target. Some even refuse to use lethal force except against their actual target. As long as they achieve their goals and leave no witnesses who can properly identify them, the Emperor allows them to work in their own ways. The violence and killing eventually turns every Hand to the dark side. For the Emperor, this is simply an added bonus.
