Yanna has chosen to accentuate her Echani heritage. This lets her mingle in Twelik society without the problems of being human. As a target for hatred and aggression Yanna has effectively become invisible to the Twelik people.

Seela uses the meek slave guise to protect herself from beings she would rather not know. People who could have purchased her in the past. Beings that would kidnap her in the future, planning to sell her again to some underworld kingpin. So rather than walk free in a universe that doesn't accept a free female Twelik Seela hides under the guise of an enslaved being and she has the freedom accorded to a slave. It works for many beings. It's easier to accept the container that society places you into than to change society's perception of you.

Seela's path is not the path of the Jedi. From time to time a Jedi will don various disguises in order to accomplish their mission, as Yanna is currently doing. But it is always a disguise. Never can a Jedi accomplish or change anything while he accepts what society believes he can or can not do. A Jedi must always challenge beliefs, notions, prejudices of those around him. It's the only way to change the things that need to be changed. To fix the things that have been broken. To return balance. To grow.
