BLS-1J Ballistae

The Ballistae is, as heart, very resilient 'mech. The original design plans were created by Ceres Metals, a major Inner Sphere battlemech production firm, in the early 28th Century, but funding for the project was dropped in 2751 with the sudden death of the First Lord. The design lay forgotten during the turbulent times that followed, and was feared completely lost with the destruction of the Ballistae prototypes in the 1st Succession War. While never officially produced, some aspiring periphery technicians have discovered that the original design can be effectively reproduced using a Marauder chassis and some stripped Catapult parts. It carries more ammunition then the Catapult, is more maneuverable than the Archer, and has the survivability of a Marauder. While not as elegant looking as the prototypes, the re-born Ballistae looks to have a bright future on today's battlefields.
