Krath War Droid

Krath War Droid

The secret society of the Krath was founded four thousand years before the Galactic Civil War by the spoiled nobles of the Empress Teta System. The society members were dabbling recklessly in Dark Side magic and the secrets of the ancient Sith. They soon grew so corrupt that they instigated a bloody military takeover of all seven Tetan Worlds. Then when the Old Republic's Jedi Knights dared oppose them at the Battle of Koros Major they decided that it was time to strike back.

They choose a lethal instrument of war, a deadly new droid, that was constructed in the black foundries of Cinnagar. These sleak machines were designed for one purpose only: to surprise and overwhelm their enemies in a devestating attack. The droids were equipped with limited cognitive matrices but this design element kept the expenses to a minimum and allowed the Krath to produce these droids en masse. The war droids limited brain only knew that it was to hit hard, hit fast, and eliminate the greatest threat first.

The droids were designed so that in one of its fists the unit would clutch a short sword for gutting its enimies at close range. The other fist held an antique pulse-wave firing assembly, which was a novel new instrument at the time. Later models even incorporated a energy deflection shield onto the large spines of the pulse-wave gun, providing yet further protection to these lethal automatons. When closing range for combat, these droids would travel hunched over like animals while leaping foward with its two powerful hind legs. Ten meter bounds were not uncommon, even in the midst of combat.

The first field test of this new droid occured when the Kraths' learned of a great meeting of ten thousand Jedi Knights and Masters that was going to be held on the world of Deneba. Not only could they test their new units, they could humiliate their enemies in the process. The first step they was to have their network of spies alter the programming of many of the servant droids that would be present at the event. Next, they loaded a captured Tetan corsair with over a hundred modified life pods--each one containing a brand new war droid. The droids were infused with the power of the Dark Side, blessed by the Krath wizards and seething with hatred for the Jedi.

Only moments after the peace meeting had begun the Krath struck. The reprogrammed servant droids turned on their Jedi owners, sowing fear and confusion. At the same time the orbiting Tetan corsair shot its pods toward the red surface of Deneba and the legion of supple war droids emerged from the impact craters. These droids proved to be a deadly enemy as dozens of heroic Jedi fell to their numbers. The Jedi Master Arca Jeth managed to tear apart many of the machines with subtle force tugs on their internal circuitry, but he soon succumed to a fatal plasma barrage. The Jedi Knights did eventually preval, but the death toll was shocking and horrific. The Senate was finally riled to action after this act, and the Old Republic eventually defeted the Krath and their allies in the Sith War.

Quirks Specific to the Krath War Droid that the party encountered:

  • The power of the Sith Temple was enough to maintain this droid over the millenia, but not enough to "superpower" it as in the Battle of Deneba. It had no Dark Side boosted statistics, besides the fact that it was still operational.
