Everything's gone to osik and I'm doing the best I can, but can't I have a little fun now and then without being interrogated by the junior admiral? I'm an adult, for star's sake. I can take care of myself.

Var took a bite of her sandwich. "I, um, got some information last night that Kerin Seltiss runs a freight company here out of Ord Mantell. Trifell Shipping. With any luck he can tell us where to find Aunt Tila and Uncle Larjin."

"So you can dump me." Rel hugged her small bag to her chest.

"I'm trying to find you a home, squirt. Somewhere safe. Cheer up. Maybe they'll be rich and you can pick flowers and ride ponies all day. Maybe the shy forest people will make you their princess. Won't that be fun."

"I had a home. You lost it in a sabaac game," Rel grumbled.

Var rolled her eyes. "Some home. The Pedestrian was a piece of poodoo. The flight control got jacked in Corellia, the nav computer was always unstable, and it smelled like dead mynock. Besides, I couldn't afford to keep it fueled." And it was easy to track. Var glanced about the spaceport, absently looking for the blue-skinned Twi'lek in the patched coat she'd spotted in the crowd during three of their past four stops. Twice might have been a coincidence, but three times made her ears prickle. They were being tailed, and the only person in the universe who might give a damn about her and the squirt was Gor'vdon. They should all have been aboard the Scarlet Flag when it exploded into burning wreckage. Maybe Gor'vdon wanted to finish what he started.
